Education Program
Nurturing Future-ready communities
The Greater Latrobe Laurel Valley Chamber of Commerce provides educational programming to local school districts, chamber members, small business owners, and the community at large. Your contributions will assist our chamber team in providing free or low-cost programs and workshops throughout the year. Many small businesses do not have the support or access to ongoing education and updated training that is necessary to keep their businesses healthy, competitive, and thriving. The chamber is an essential partner to the business community and is invested in the growth and financial stability of the Greater Latrobe region.
Contributions may be designated for school district or business education, or for general educational programming.
Programs Offered
CEO IN THE CLASSROOM
Local CEO in the Classroom is a two-hour program designed for 8th grade students that explores local business opportunities and introduces students to basic concepts of entrepreneurship. The program will commence in a large group setting for a 15-minute introduction presented by a district representative, preferably the school counselor, principal or a lead teacher. Key talking points include welcoming remarks and introduction of the guest speakers, as well as a brief description of the program. The program includes a brief slide presentation followed by activities focused on soft skills, technology and high priority occupations.
MARKETING SUMMIT
Students are taken off site to a local business for a tour and presentation by the marketing department. Students from multiple school districts will be divided into small groups and are tasked with designing a new product or service for the business. They will present the new product including name, logo and branding/theme, identify demographics, and design a multi-media advertising campaign to sell the product to the intended audience. Each group will then give a 3-5 minute presentation and is scored using a standard rubric. Groups are provided feedback by a panel of judges and prizes are awarded to the top scoring groups.
INTERVIEW WORKSHOPS AND CAREER DAYS
Students have the opportunity to meet with professional career representatives to discuss specific aspects of their profession. Interview Workshops allow students to practice their communication skills through actual mock interviews with local employers. These programs are held in the spring and fall semesters at our local school districts.
ECONOMIC EXCHANGE DAY
This full day program is conducted in the spring for high school economics students. A main project is identified to study and subject matter experts from a variety of fields present information and data pertinent to the case study.
Students have the opportunity to discuss and ask questions of the guest speakers before presenting their summaries at the end of the day. This exercise teaches the students how multiple disciplines work together to complete large scale community projects.
CHAMBER UNIVERSITY
Chamber University is a quarterly event that is designed to provide our chamber businesses the tools necessary to thrive and be successful. Attendees receive continuing education credits upon completion.
